A look at the M&NJ Railroad
Sunday October 24th
Today, Sunday October 24th I had some time so I went up to NY State to look at the M&NJ Railroad and there is some good news and some bad news. First on the way up I went up to Butler to see the steam engine 142 in Butler and see what is going on, I think I saw Matt on the road when I was heading into Butler. From there I went up to Johnson NY and found the weeds are not to bad but the bad news it that the road now has new pavement over and on one side heading to Slathill the pavement is high. From there I headed down to Middletown NY I stopped at Janies and found they paved over that road crossing and from there I found the sand pit filled over the railroad. Good news is the weeds did not get too high there. Got down to Midletown and found that almost all the road crossings now have pavement or some type of pavement patch over it. Got into Middletown and saw the railroad has keeping up with the weeds up to Doleson Avenue but on the other side of Doleson Ave the weeds are some what high. I walked into the railroad from Doleson Avenue in heading to Slate Hill and found the brush is growing in so much the it is about one man wide but someone has been riding a quad up and down that part and has kept the grass down. So the question is should we still like to keep this railroad open, are we still going to keep this railroad open, and if so should we do it before winter. To me I would love to see this railroad open right up to someone says for use to stop and I would like to see some work done before winter to let everyone up there know there is still life on this part or the railroad.I know we have been hard at work on the BR&W but now that we are almost done, well maybe we can get some time to reclaim this railroad. Chris, sorry I didn’t read the e-mails sooner or I would have help you get the MT19 up to Johnson to day. (From-Larry Ten Hoeve)
